master plan for the blue wing of the museum, including a daylighting treatment of the main atrium space as well as a publicly accessible theater and event space.
the master plan of the blue wing involved the rethinking of the central atrium - a popular event space, this atrium is utilized for a multitude of programs, including weddings, cocktail hours, science experiments, and general visitor circulation.
the main goal of this master plan was to daylight the atrium - study models were created and implemented to help convince trustees that the impact was worth the cost.

our other goal in this master plan was opening up cahner’s theatre to the charles river.
this theatre, currently used for private events and shows, is lacking proper flexibility of program while ignoring the beautiful view it could have down the river. by updating the current brick facade with a double skin curtain wall, the entire blue wing (atrium skylight included) enters the modern world both in materiality and experience.
